Mental Illness Training

The training that CHC provides covers many areas. What you receive in our classes is neither a rehash of what you were taught in college nor some variation on a theme. Our training is based on decades of real world experience and research which has been informed by that experience.

Many of our courses are, of course, specifically directed at those working in the field of mental illness - psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, et al. Those are not the only groups who can benefit from our training. The following are others for whom we have appropriate courses:

General Practioners - As common as mental illness is, GPs, and other specialties, will have patients who have need of treatment for it. Awareness, proper handling and appropriate referrals are not instinctual, proper training is essential.

Emergency Room Personnel - In today's system, this group often finds themselves on the front lines.

Educators - This group's purpose and training is entirely distinct from dealing with mental illness but that does not insulate them from facing it in their jobs.

Law Enforcement and Correctional Staff - As with educators, they are forced to deal with problems considered outside of their primary focus.

Family Members - The way the family responds to and deals with the problem is often critical. Training and education for them should not be ignored.

Courts and Lawyers - We offer training for mental health court staffs. Lawyers can benefit from a better understanding of mental illness and its particularities when trying to educate jurors.
